Allowing me to visually work through an idea is one of my sketchbook's primary functions. It isn't always pretty and at this stage I'm not thinking about overall composition, it is just a place for me to brain vomit some ideas into.
Here are a couple of drawings made a couple of years ago while Jeff and I were visiting our friends Greg and Kim in Texas. It was so lovely visiting these friends in their home to catch up, get a sense of how they were doing in their new-ish place (at that point they had moved there a year or so (?) earlier from the Northeast) and scope out out the town.
Dear Art Teacher,
You welcomed kids into the room upstairs of your old home where your daughters used to sleep to teach us watercolors and how to draw. Your husband made us popcorn that we doused with some cheesy salty seasoning that I'd never heard of before or seen since. I remember warmth there.
Here are a whole bunch of mugs that I’ve drawn over the past few months. I originally started drawing these because I knew that if I drew some mugs I liked I would hone in on certain details that I might not pick up otherwise which would then allow me to incorporate those ideas into my pottery.
Spring is in ten days, but it is still Winter so let's spend some time thinking about SUMMER! I love Summer. I love hot weather and while a little bit of Winter is okay, I would really be much happier living out my days in a linen sundress and a floppy hat.
